Transcription into Brass Setting
Question: What pieces do you think improve (or add a new element, etc.) when they are transposed into a brass only setting?
This came to mind listening to a transcription by the Empire Brass of Bach's Cantata No. 40, Wachet Auf (Sleepers, Wake). My personal opinion is that use of brass voices adds something to the piece. I get a very "BBC, pastoral, Brideshead Revisited," kind of vibe off the arrangement.
And I don't think it's just the skill of the group . . . listening to an arrangement by the Empire Brass of Holst's Jupiter, I found it kind of thin.
Opinions??

Re: Transcription into Brass Setting
"Jesu, Joy of Man's Desire" by Bach sounds unique in brass ensemble, I enjoy the piece regardless what instrument it's performed on .
